October was our first time that we missed a mortgage payment. November we received our first foreclosure notice. We kept in contact with them, and even sent in partial monthly payments to them. They told us they could not help us with a different payment plan and that we needed to find help elsewhere if we wanted to keep our home. We called around and found a financial office in early December, and had a January appointment set up with someone. We informed the mortgage company of this, and continued to make partial monthly payments. At our financial appointment the man took all of our information and explained how the program worked if we were eligible for it. He had to send all of our information to another office in another state and it had to be approved through them. Said it could take 6-10 weeks until we would find anything out and that he would notify our mortgage company that we were there and that we were in the process of waiting for an approval. He told us in the mean time to stop paying on certain bills and just pay on the most important ones…such as electric, phone, heat, sewer, water, mortgage, insurance, and this is exactly what we did. We had a few credit cards, and just stopped paying on them. We contacted debt consolidation to see about putting our credit cards through them and everyone seem to be pretty much the same…One company would not accept us unless we agreed to have each monthly payment taken directly from our checking account the same day every month which at the time would not of worked for us because my husbands weekly pay at that time varied greatly from week to week. And this company also wanted to charge us 3,000.00 just to do the program. And they wouldn’t put any payment to the credit cards until their company was paid first. I believe our monthly payment to them would’ve been something like$700-$800, That meant the credit card companies wouldn’t receive any payments for quite a few months, and would go to collections first. The lady said yes that is what they wait for, because then they can get a lower payoff amount. Insane, If my cards are going to collection anyway, why would I pay their company $3000 to let it happen. Needless to say, we just stuck our cards in a drawer and forgot about them. Now my credit which was at one time good, is now horrible, and we are still no better off with our mortgage company Washington Mutual. We received a denial notice for financial assistance, and was back to square one. We pleaded with our mortgage company not to foreclose. after months of sending them financial info, they set up a different payment plan, after a few months of that we asked to be reviewed for a new plan again, because my husband was laid off from his job, we wanted our past due and late fees tacked on the end of our loan a loan modification, or refinanced…again after sending financial info to them again and then waiting weeks and weeks for them to come to a decision they gave us another payment plan still refusing to put the past due on the end of our loan. We paid exactly what we were told on the exact days we were told in Sept., Oct., Nov. , December I called to make another payment and they would not accept it and said our case was sent back to the mitigation department again for another review, and that we were not to make any payments until they came back with a decision. This made me feel extremely uneasy, so every other week we were calling them to find out what we were supposed to do, they kept telling us not to do anything, and that they had not yet made a decision. Meanwhile we were accruing additional past due and late fees. Finally at the end of Feb. we received a letter in the mail telling us that yet again we were denied for a reworked payment plan. Keep in mind that since this whole thing started in October, we have received harassing phone calls from Washington Mutual almost daily and sometimes several times a day about our not making payments, even when we were told not to. Just yesterday we made yet another attempt to make a mortgage payment for the FULL MONTHLY AMOUNT and the lady would not accept payment from us she put us on hold and said she would transfer us to the mitigation department and no one ever picked up. We can not lose our home. We have been trying to work with them and even want to make payments and they are refusing them! My husband started a new job Feb. 1st of this year, and making more money than the previous, we have four children a 15 yr old, 2-13 yr olds, and a 1 year old. And by the way, my husband was laid off from his previous employer. That is why we had requested a second repayment plan with the mortgage company. Please tell us you can help our family. Our situation has changed in the way that my husband is back to work with a new company since February 1st and is making more money than before, but we are still with the same mortgage company, and Washington Mutual is foreclosing
